Ending your ride outside of the system area may result in an additional fee of $15.
With the Uber app, users can find and unlock JUMP e- scooters. It’s simple to use, via Uber:
You can ride JUMP scooters to get most places in your city, within the system area shown in the map above and in the Uber app. Always ride the safest path or road and do not ride JUMP scooters down steep hills - especially here in Wellington.
Park your scooter in the system area outlined in the Uber app, avoiding no parking zones and making sure not to block a footpath, driveway, accessibility ramp, or area designated for foot traffic. Push the kickstand down and tap 'END RIDE' in the app to end your trip.
If you’re unable to end the trip in the app, let us know via the Help section of the Uber app, email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or over the phone (0800 005 666).
The system area is outlined in the map in the Uber app, and you should not end your trip outside this area.
There are also some restrictions on where you should ride within the system area. You should avoid riding on footpaths in the CBD, in the Wellington Botanic Gardens, Bolton Street Cemetery, Otari-Wilton's Bush. Truby King Park (except on main roadways), Cuba Street Mall, and Waterfront side of Oriental Parade from Herd Street to Freyberg Pool (except in Oriental Parade cycle path).
No parking zones are displayed on the map in the Uber app. These include the areas detailed above as no riding zones.
Riders will get a push notification through the app when they head out of the service area, and another push notification if they try and end the trip out of the service area or in a no parking zone. That’s why before riding a JUMP scooter, we encourage you to familiarise yourself with the system area map, available through the Uber app. The system area is outlined in the map in the Uber app. Always end your rental within the system area.
Riders who leave the scooter outside the boundary may be charged an additional fee, and riders who do so repeatedly may lose access to the app.
We encourage every rider to be safe when using a JUMP scooter and we provide tips in app to help encourage people to follow safe riding behaviours.
Each rider accepts the terms of service when using JUMP and agrees they are responsible to assume all risk when using JUMP scooters.
Riders can report accidents via the Help section of the Uber app, email (email@example.com) or over the phone (0800 005 666). Non-riders can also report accidents using the email and phone line.
If you’ve been involved in a serious accident, you should immediately stop and park your scooter. Make sure that you and everyone around you is safe and call emergency services via 111.
Once you're ok, we also ask that you report this accident to Uber either through the in-app help section, the email address or phone line. To get help in-app, please select "Help", "Safety and security" and then tap on the article with the title "I was involved in an accident" and enter the details. A member of our support team will call you back as soon as possible.
Anyone can report a scooter that needs to be moved via the Help section of the Uber app, email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or over the phone (0800 005 666). Please take note of the licence plate of the scooter you are reporting.
You may have been charged a fee by JUMP if you parked your scooter outside of the service area, shown above, or in a no parking zone, shown in the Uber app. The fee is necessary to cover the fleet teams who are sent to retrieve the scooters and re-deploy them elsewhere.
If you're having trouble starting your trip, it may be due to a scooter connectivity issue. If you have not started your trip in the app, you will not be charged a reservation fee. Please reserve another scooter that is nearby.
Always check that your tyres are in good condition and lights turn on before you ride. It’s best to start slow, check your brakes are working, and become familiar with the scooter. If something isn’t right, please let us know by reporting it to us via the Uber app, or through the support number or email displayed on the scooter.
We encourage riders to be safe by following safe riding behaviours, including wearing helmets and following the rules of the road. Don’t have a helmet? We've partnered with Evo Cycles and Pro-Tec to provide great deals on their helmets*
We tell all riders to start slow and become familiar with the product. Brake early, gradually, and be sure to use both brakes at the same time. Move slowly down steep hills. Wear a helmet that fits and make sure it's fastened properly. Follow the rules of the road, use hand signals, and give way to pedestrians. Ride within your limits and don’t drink and ride. Ride in the direction of traffic and use the bell to give pedestrians and other road users a heads up before you pass. Plan a good route before you ride.
Our scooters are tough. We designed them to withstand the elements, but we don’t recommend riding scooters in the rain. You should always ride to the weather conditions.
*Uber/JUMP is not responsible for third party offers, products and/or services. The Evo Cycles helmet discount is only available for select BELL helmets. The Pro-Tec helmet discount is only available for Certified Bike or Skate helmets.
We know we have a role in contributing to safety for everyone on the road. We are committed to being part of the solution that advances technology and mobility for everyone.
All riders get an in-app safety primer before their first ride, there’s reminders on every scooter of the key safety tips, plus a safety toolkit section for JUMP riders in the Uber app.
We monitor the feedback from riders and have specially-trained mechanics to help ensure all of our scooters are safe while on the road. We encourage people to report any suspected damage through the app, so we can remotely lock the scooter and get a technician out to collect it and take it back to the warehouse.
When scooters come back to the warehouse for charging we also do safety checks on them to make sure they’re in good working order.
JUMP is a transport option people are choosing for shorter trips and we are proud to help provide first and last mile solutions. JUMP scooters have lights that automatically turn on when the scooter is unlocked, and people should check the lights are on before the begin their ride. The scooters also have reflectors on both sides of the deck and on the rear brake, are painted bright red in colour and have a reflective JUMP logo.
We do encourage people to ride within their limits and plan their route beforehand. That’s particularly important if someone’s riding as it's getting dark or in areas they’re not familiar with. If you plan to ride at night, the NZ Ministry of Health recommends wearing bright clothing to help you stand out.
We are committed to safety and have provided in-app messaging on safety tips to encourage riders to practice safe behaviour during each trip, including following the rules of the road and wearing a helmet.
'* Uber/JUMP is not responsible for third party offers, products and/or services. The Evo Cycle helmet discount is only available for BELL Crest, Nomad and Hub helmets. The Pro-Tec helmet discount is only available for Certified Bike or Skate helmets.

We're excited to hear about your interest in the JUMP Starter program, which is the JUMP battery charger program that we have in some of our cities.
Unfortunately, JUMP Starters isn't available in Wellington quite yet. We’ll be sure to update the JUMP website once there’s an update. For now, we hope you enjoy your experience as a rider with JUMP.
